New chair of CESSE leads four groups Bergfeld An aversion to grant writing led Ellen Bergfeld away from academia. Today she is a CEO times four. She leads the Alliance of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science Societies, as well as the three founding associations of the nonprofit organization. Used to multiple responsibilities, Bergfeld also became board chair of the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives during the group's July 25-27 conference in Quebec City.
